El Lay coroner has released a statement claiming that Brittany Murphy died from pneumonia. However coroner’s officials also said that anemia and prescription drugs also played a role.
The primary cause of death was community-acquired pneumonia, with contributing factors of iron deficiency anemia and “multiple drug intoxication,” according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Husband Simon Monjack released his comments to the press.
“Everything [surprised me and Brittany's mom about the report]. I expected [the cause of death] to be her heart. She wasn’t coughing up. I’ve had pneumonia and coughed up handfuls of spittle. So yeah, everything surprised us, everything.”
When asked about the coroner’s claim that her death was completely preventable if she had properly seen a doctor, Monjack said,
“I don’t know what he said so I don’t want to comment on what I haven’t seen. Case closed, as the coroner said, there’s no foul play.”
The death was ruled accidental
